Double Darn is owned and operated by Misia Pitkin. She is a Portland native, graduated from the Pacific Northwest College of Art, and has been sewing cycling caps since 2007.
While I handle all of Double Darn’s sewing and daily operations, I could never make all this work without the love and support from my amazing and encouraging family and friends, or without the interest and patronage of a city and a cycling community that appreciates hand made goods.
I grew up sewing doll clothes, then my own, and now I sew for other people. My mom taught me to sew, and I also spent a lot of time sewing with my grandmothers. The business name, Double Darn, is a traditional embroidery stitch. While I don’t use hand-sewing in my business, I do understand and respect the traditions and history.
